Lucretia Borgia is one of those people much maligned by history. I went into this novel with some trepidation, half expecting the usual evil, murdering, whore characterization.I was delighted to find that this was not what was been offered. David Krae's Lucretia is a gentle, honest young woman in the midst of a politically turbulent time.
The evils of Pope Alexander VI are sung as loud as the alleged crimes of his daughter. In the novel, David takes great pains to show the political machinations of the life of the Pope at that time. You start to feel that, even though he did much that was evil, what he did was understandable in the light of the times. Not evil for evil's sake, but almost necessary evils.
David Krae does not make the mistake that many historical novelists do. That is to impose the morals of today onto times past. Alexander VI, Lucretia, Cesare Borgia and all the other characters, stand or fall by their own actions and the morals of their times, not ours. This makes "Lucretia" a real gem to read and gives a level of honesty and integrity to the characters.

This book is well researched and well written. The author has done an outstanding job writing about Lucretia, daughter of Pope Alexander VI, in Renaissance Italy. This book was eight hundred pages which I read in four days and never got lost in the story. The content of the book and a historical revisit to the Borgia family outweighed and editing errors. I recommend this book. Good job, Mr. Krae.
Very interesting read.
I enjoyed getting some actual facts after watching the Borgias on Showtime. It's hard to believe that truth is honestly more shocking than fiction. A good read.
I enjoyed this book which is based on on the life of Lucretia Borgia instead of Pope Alexander & Ceasare Borgia. It left out some elements of he r life but still kept my interest.
After following the history of the Borgia Pope, Alexancer Vl, on TV I could not wait to read the book. It is full of interesting twists into the life of Lucretia that the TV series did not reveal. Enjoyed the book a great deal.
The the story was captivating. I would have preferred if it was not written from the all knowing point of view, but instead just from the point of view of Lucretia. At times when the author, Krae, would change whose thoughts we were hearing, it would be a bit abrupt. It would take me off guard we I would be reading thinking I was hearing one person's thoughts, but than realized that I it had changed an I was reading the thoughts of another. However, this did not deter me much. I still very much enjoyed the read. The more I read, the more addicted I became
